Nevada legislation seeks to give more family control in selecting a public school

A movement to loosen attendance boundaries within school districts is before the Nevada Legislature.
Assembly Bill 533 is a Democrat-led proposal for open enrollment that would allow children to attend a school outside of the one zoned for their home address, but only if the school has the room.
The state’s largest districts — the Clark County School District and the Washoe County School District — have their own policies with the same core as the bill, which the Assembly Education Committee first heard Tuesday. However, bill presenter Selena Torres-Fossett, D-Las Vegas, said the statewide proposal was more transparent, data-driven and more equitable than CCSD and WCSD’s policies. read more...
